The IFAT 2026 is over – and we still can't come down. Five days in Munich, hundreds of conversations, and plenty of new faces (and old acquaintances): For Optocycle, it was the first active participation at the world's leading trade fair for water, wastewater, waste, and raw materials management – and what an entry it was.
The Trade Fair: An Industry Meeting of Superlatives
The IFAT Munich 2026 has once again broken all records. Around 3,300 exhibitors from over 60 nations showcased their solutions for a more sustainable world at the Munich exhibition center. With over 140,000 visitors, IFAT is more than just a trade fair – it is the driving force of the global recycling and waste management industry. If you're not here, you're not in the game.
And we were there. With our own booth, a strong team – and a clear message.
The location: No chance to miss us
Hall A6, Stand 151 – those who know IFAT understand that location is everything. As part of the joint booth with Blasius Schuster GmbH & Co. KG, THE GREEN ANGELS, G.E.D., and remineral, we had a corner stand in one of the highest traffic areas of the entire fair. No one passed us by – in the literal sense.
This booth was not just a booth – it was a networking meeting point. The who’s who of the circular economy, leading decision-makers from municipalities, waste management and recycling companies, technology partners, and industry experts – they all stopped by. The quality of the conversations we were able to have over these four days is something we could not have bought in any other format.
Those who were still hesitant were at the latest convinced by coffee, beer, liver cheese, and white sausage. (More on that later.)

The exhibit: Mostly self-built – and still an eye-catcher
What many didn't know: Our trade show exhibit was mostly homemade. Experiencing a self-built Truck Imager – our camera system along with software that is used directly at the scale – in action was well received by many visitors and made the functionality and various applications of our technology clear. Sometimes, it doesn't take a highly polished trade show production, but simply a solution that works and speaks for itself.
The Mystery of the Trade Fair: Our Stolen Truck
What would a good retrospective be without a story that people still talk about years later?
Day 3, early morning. Despite having a security, our remote-controlled truck – the central element of our exhibit – was stolen during the night. A real crime in the middle of IFAT. 🚨
What did we do? We swallowed hard, then took action. In no time, we not only organized a contingency plan for the trade show day but also launched a public search on LinkedIn – including a reward: one month of Truck Imager for free for anyone who can provide us with a replacement truck.
The reaction from the community has truly moved us. Frederic Weihberg from the Munich Waste Management Company saw our call, came to our booth in person, and brought us a DIY garbage truck kit. 🚚
No stolen truck could stop us. The criminal case is still officially unsolved – but history has shown what this industry is all about: people who step in for each other when it matters.
The Team: The Real Reason Why It Worked
Four days of trade show operations are not a sprint – they are a marathon. Setup, teardown, getting in early, staying late, being present all day, convincing, and in a good mood. A huge thank you to everyone who made this week possible.
The Optocycle IFAT team mastered it with an energy that honestly makes us proud. It’s just fun to work with these people. And the visitors at our booth – that’s our impression – felt it too.
Conclusion: We'll be back!
The IFAT 2026 was a real milestone for Optocycle. Not because we had a booth – but because we felt that our solution is needed in this industry. The high level of interest, the positive feedback, and the depth of the conversations clearly confirmed this to us.
We leave with a full schedule, many new contacts, and a clear feeling: We belong here.
